Sweet Stampede Blog Hop Time!

2019-04

It’s been quite a while since I last participated in a team blog hop, so I am super excited to be BACK and what a theme to work with this round! While I’m definitely a cold weather girl, I do LOVE flowers and how Spring is full of such pretty things. If only I could get my thumbs to be green instead of black, I’d probably grow a few at our house. My favorites are tulips, roses, hydrangeas, peonies and magnolias…. and oh I could go on! Plus, have you heard about this “mega bloom” that is happening in various parts of the country causing more flowers than ever before?! Oh how I would love to see that! But… for now, my garden is staying in my stamp room with all the beautiful flower options we have. Keep reading to see my project for this month!

I actually did about five different projects with the theme of flowers, so it was kind of hard for me to choose which one to feature for the hop. BUT. Once I did this one using our new designer vellum I KNEW I had to show it off! So, the vellum was the starting point and then I just played… for a while… until I figured out what else I wanted to use. At first, this was to be an anniversary card but then I changed it to be a more glam birthday card. I used Fresh Fig for the card base, and cut an extra panel in the same size of a card front to give a bit of dimension. I used the leaf stamp from our “Needle & Thread” stamp set to create a background pattern of leaves, stamped in Fresh Fig ink for a bit of a watermarked effect. Then, I ran the vellum sheet from our “Floral Romance” DSP pack, and a panel of Very Vanilla through the big shot with our Stitched Rectangle Framelits. I arranged my panels askew, which oddly enough has become one of my new favorite things to do, it adds a bit of flair in the simplest ways. I used dimensionals to pop up the Very Vanilla, and then adhered the dsp vellum on top of it. Vellum can be a bit tricky to work with and adhere without showing the actual adhesive you’re using. In order to combat this, I adhered it onto the vanilla ONLY where the sentiment would overlap. It took a bit of configuring, but worked pretty well.

Next, I got to work on my sentiment. I stamped the Happy Birthday from our “Life Is Grand” stamp set, but the trick to this was that I masked off the top part of the sentiment before inking, then removed the mask and stamped onto the Mossy Meadow. I then embossed it with the copper embossing powder, and then used the adorable label from “Stitched Labels” Framelits to center it. I used some Very Vanilla bakers twine to wrap it around all the panels, and tear and tape to hold it on the back of my Fresh Fig panel.

I was going to use the beautiful wooden leaves from the Frames Elements as they are, but then decided to try something new. I made them copper by rubbing one side onto Versamark ink, then basically dousing them with copper embossing powder. I carefully, CAREFULLY used the heat gun to set it. I stress the carefully because there isn’t really anywhere to hold these like you can with paper. But, I used tongs to help me out, and the result is a beautiful, metal-looking embellishment.  I loosley wrapped some of the copper metallic thread around four fingers about give times, then adhered it behind my sentiment with a glue dot. I used Stampin Dimensionals to help hold both the thread onto the sentiment, and the sentiment onto the card base. I then used glue dots and tucked my leaves in behind the popped sentiment.

To wrap up my card, I took the beautiful flower from the “Forever Lovely” stamp set and stamped it in Petal Pink onto a panel of Very Vanilla, then stamped the sentiment over it in Fresh Fig. And there you have it! My mushpot of ideas came out and created one of my favorite designs, if I do say so myself.

Thanks for joining me on this blog hop. I hope you enjoyed my card and maybe have a little inspiration for your own design. Next up, you’ll actually be circling around to the beginning and ooh’ing over my friend Heather’s beautiful project. Click the image below to go, go, go!
